Dear DePaul Catholic Families,
Welcome to another fantastic year at DePaul! I am excited to be your new principal and look forward to getting to know you. For those of you who are new to DePaul (like me), I want you to know that your child is attending an amazing school. And to our returning families, thank you for your dedication to making DePaul so special. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education and faith!
You’ll be hearing a lot from me in the coming weeks, but I want to make sure we cover a few basics in this introductory mailing, including a little bit more about my background.
I have been dedicated to education in Philadelphia for the past twelve years, both as a teacher and administrator. My most recent administrative experience was with Mastery Charter Schools, where I was an assistant principal for six years. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of what elementary students need in order to be prepared and successful in high school and life beyond their K-8 education.
My family also has helped prepare me to be an elementary principal. I am blessed to be a mother of two boys, Charlie who is five years old and Oliver who is two years old. As they continue to grow and Charlie enters into kindergarten, I am even more thankful for the wonderful new perspective motherhood brings to my work as a leader and listener.
Over the summer, I have spent much of my time at DePaul getting to know the building, our community and our wonderful staff. We have been busy preparing for students to return and all signs point to an incredible and productive school year ahead.
My door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in, call or email me to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas! We are eager to see all of you on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 4th. Enclosed you will find important notes and reminders about the start of the school year. Thank you in advance for your attention to the many details we will share with you in this mailing.
Mrs. Kathleen Gillespie
